epic-viner-kitWe are delighted to announce the creation of the Epic Cycles-Viner Race Team (or Epic-Viner RT for short), to run alongside the Epic Cycles Road Club.

The RT will be focussed on road racing in all its forms – whether junior, senior or veteran, on open roads, closed circuits and even the track (OK, so that one isn’t really “road” racing, but it comes from the same stable). The number one aim of the RT is to promote participation in road racing – it is absolutely not for elite riders only. The sport of road racing can appear quite daunting and off putting to newcomers, however talented or experienced they are in other forms of riding. We hope through the creation of the RT, and with support from Viner bikes of Italy, to encourage riders to enter into road racing in all its forms by providing an opportunity to race and train with team mates in a positive and friendly environment.

Of course we hope that the team will have some success in races – and the season has certainly started well with riders picking up wins, placings and team prizes etc – road racing is a competitive sport after all! But perhaps the greatest measures of whether the team is succeeding or not will be the atmosphere within the team, the numbers taking part and the take up of new riders.  All of the early signs are very encouraging as the team has grown steadily in numbers and the buzz around the team has been fantastic, with other riders from other clubs commenting regularly on the taem work and team spirit at races – we seem always to be the first to arrive and the last to leave!

Membership of the Epic-Viner RT will automatically include Epic Cycles RC membership too, so that all other aspects of cycling are catered for. And in turn membership of Epic Cycles RC (without being part of the RT) will still come with affiliation to British Cycling, CTT etc, so is no bar to having a go at a road race alongide RT club mates. But the RT is intended as a road racing team, so membership is only open to riders who plan to take part in a reasonable number of races (5 or more) during the year, and to shop staff.

There are no fixed race programme that members will be obliged to attend, as we all have busy lives that mean we can’t always be available to order! But there will be some races that we would like to focus on and put a decent sized team into.

Viner Bikes are supporting members of the RT with exclusive “Servizio Corsa” race bikes – these are heavily subsidised race specific models from their “Race Division”, manufactured by hand in Italy from high quaility alloys and carbon, and painted in stylish black and white team colours. They will also be available at special purchase prices to members of Epic Cycles Road Club – and to no-one else.

Epic-Viner RT clothing will be very similar to Epic Cycles RC kit – in fact it will only differ in the race jersey, which will have the same base design with the additional of Viner logos. The shorts, jackets, gilets etc will be identical.

If you are interested in road racing as part of the RT, or would like more information on the team or Servizio Corsa bikes, please drop us a line using the “contact us” menu option above.

If things continue to grow along the same lines as the sportive club side of things, then Happy Days ahead :-) I did a few races this year,(6 in total ) circuit, road and a couple of those were handicapped RR’s. They were great fun and improved strength and speed for my sportives. With other team members there it should be fantastic.

The good news is that the first order of Servizio Corsa framesets has been built and is currently in the paint shop in Tuscany :-) Delivery to the shop should happen early in January.

Well I think mine is pretty darn brilliant.

My alu/carbon Viner is actually lighter than my full-carbon Argon 18. Super stiff – power transfer is staggering compared to anything else I’ve ridden. It handles really well too, you can really throw it into the corners with confidence. Plus, they look aggressive and purposeful!

Total agreement with Matt. Absolutely bang on for performance – a much better bike than I am rider :-)

I’m impressed too. I’ve ridden a Ridley Damocles for the past two years. This is known for it’s good handling and general responsivness. the viner handles just as well and is probably a bit stiffer. With my Ridley the back wheel skips off the ground under hard acceleration but I haven’t had this problem with the Viner, it seems a more cohesive and well resolved design.
