As we are a very new club this is going to be pretty brief… The Epic Cycles Road Club club was formed in mid April 2008, and came about as a result of the regular social rides from Epic Cycles shop.

The basic idea behind the club is to build on the friendly, welcoming and accessible nature of the social rides by adding a sense of membership, but without any kind elitism or exclusivity. The social rides all start and end with tea and coffee back at the shop, where the soft seated area acts as a kind of clubhouse. We will be expanding on that by adding a notice board etc, but this blogsite will be the main means of communication.

Our focus is on road riding in all its forms, but we will be venturing off into the dirt for a bit of MTB-ing from time to time, and might even try our hands at cyclo cross come the winter. While the club is affiliated to British Cycling and the CTT (Cycling Time Trials), we are definitely not all about racing - this will be a very small part of the club’s activities.  Central to the club will be things like cyclosportives, where we plan to meet up at the start of events and set out as a club (although we probably won’t finish in one group, given the nature of these things!).

As we get into the second half of the year we also want to look at setting up a more formal junior section, catering for secondary school aged children - this will be a little more “team” or competition orientated, with coaching, training and trips to tracks etc. We hope that this will bring local kids into the sport and act as a feeder to the youth development teams that already exist locally.

Also on the agenda as we settle in will be outings to cycling venues around the region - from great road riding country, through track trips, to a bit of off roading.

One thing we won’t be doing is sticking to a fixed set of activities - so please, if you would like to get involved or have an idea for something we should be doing, let us know…the more input we get, the better.

If you you fancy joining, then just download the membership form on our membership page, or drop into the shop and talk to us about what we are up to, or even pop a quick email to us using this simple contact form:
