Well done to Carl Morris who competed yesterday in the gruelling Bristol Duathlon. It consisted of 5km cross country run, 15k off-road bike followed by another 5km cross country run.
With the race underway, after the first run leg, the organisers revealed that due to a slight clerical error, the run was actually 5 MILES and not 5km as advertised! The competitiors didn’t know however, which would explain why they all shot off at 5k pace at the start, only to then all trudge back heavy-legged into the first transition! Plus there was a real stinker of a climb in the middle of the course. Not that I minded of course, I was too busy watching the spectacle of the registration marquee get uplifted and blown across the common by gale-force winds!
Anyway, after two punishing 5 mile runs (into that gale!) and a very technical bike leg through the woods, Carl came in at 2h 40, which placed him in roughly in the middle of the 200 strong field. It looked nightmarishly hard, so well done mate, bet you’re sore today
Well done mate, nice to see the Epic flag flying!
Nice ‘race-face’ too!
Congratulations Carl, keep up the good work
Woah that’s a serious race face!
Well done Carl great result in tough conditions.
..scared of u!
;o)
Well done Carl, sounds like a tough event.
And talk about fat tyres . . . they must be at least 28’s!
Well the organizers described it as a clerical error, the event was advertised as a 5k run, 15k bike and another 5k run. The actual distances were 7k run, 16.5k bike and an another 7k run.
It was also described as undulating and not mountainous!!
No wonder my legs hurt!!!!
Nice one Carl – looks like a cracking event even with the extra distance and (sharp intake of breath) fat knobbly tyres
