Hi All – a couple of dates for your diary…on the 6th September there is quite a turnout planned for the Trans Cambrian sportive out of Rhayader (won’t be there myself as I will be supporting Molly, Ethan and Jack at the Youth Tour of Wales stage race), and there are still places left.
Plus, we will be doing an informal recce ride of the Autumn Epic route out of Knighton at 9.30 am from the Community Centre on 13th September, with lunch stop in Rhayader – this will mark the restarting of Epic Cycles social ride season, with the fortnightly rides from the shop on Saturdays kicking off a month later, following the Autumn Epic. All welcome!
Looks like a few of us are booked in for the Trans-Cambrian so we can plan a start time to suit the masses if everyone fancies a group beginning (this never lasts due to the differing climbing speeds). Should be a good run if the weather is kind. There are at least 7+ of us confirmed at the moment and should be more. Good training for the Autumn Epic!
Just back from hols, Cambrian is a possibility but Autumn Epic Recce is out for me, due to 1st round of Midlands ‘cross. Miss guided soul that I am
Look forward to the re-introduction of the Saturday rides
Yes I`ve entered Cambrian too, aiming to start 8:30 ish—-just hope feed stops have improved on last year though!

Clive P has adjusted his volumes from last year (when the food ran out) so is prepared for the hungry masses at the food stops this time. The finish T-shirt is also replaced by a meal voucher at the end of the ride so if you are still peckish there will be a chance to fill up then. Always an idea to take some in your pockets too though to keep yourself topped up on the course.
I am aiming to start soon after 8am so we may be able to get a group going at a STEADY rate.
Whilst i fully intend to reacquaint my self with my bike in the coming weeks i have, over the last month, eaten evrything in sight and am now the size of a small house. So, i can confirm i will not be able to take part in the upcoming sportives in order to avoid any embarassment.
Have fun and i’ll see you all on the winter rides!
Everyone seemed to enjoy (enjoy the climbs???) the Trans Cambrian yesterday, even though us Epic chaps were a little splintered in groups along the route.
A great route, good food stops and apart from a constant headwind wherever we turned we had enough in our legs to blast the last bit of the route which takes you down the latter part of the Rhayader Hilly TT circuit. A superb end to the day.
It was also great to see some familiar faces out on the ride and most seemed very chatty, unless they were slogging up a climb of course! Thanks go out to Clive and team for all of their organisation and efforts from start to finish – well done from us all.
See you all next year for another bash at it . . . .
Well done Chris and all the Epic riders ! If we had money on it I would of been walking away with the money. Not mentioning any names but there were a few doubting thomas’s in the muttley crew who shameful doubted you would pick up your appearance money Chris
But I did claim that your ‘love affair’ with said climbs, wild horses wouldn’t keep you away
Shame about the wind !! Great to learn Andy ‘O’ has joined the club, welcome Andy
Hah! Wish I had known as I could have played an inside bet myself.
Them of little faith . . .
It must be known that had it been hammering down when I drew back the curtains at ’stupid o’clock’ in the morning I would have sent a brief text wishing everyone else luck and gone straight back to bed.
Both Adam and Andy are welcome riders to the club, with both planning to have a bash at some racing next year. Their form shows it may be harder to get a ride even as a ‘domestique’ next year! Better re-adjust the planned winter training schedule up from the 50 miles total now . . .
Yes, hearing of your reputation for hills and rain a bit surprised (but good surprise) to see you Chris on such a hilly course with a wet forecast (it nearly always rains in Wales!)—however more power to your pedals as you whizzed by in TT style around the dams , leaving me in a dreaming dawdling state!

Hi Guys
I like the sound of the recce I hope to be there. Please be gentle with me as prep is zero.
Ceri
Yeah, we did have a little blast around the last bit even though the nagging wind held the average down a bit but there is nothing like a bit of ‘through and off’ at 25mph at the end of a 87 mile ride, eh? :-/
I am looking forward to the Autumn Epic recce now Ceri. I hope you have had a chance to bed in that lovely new steed!
The forecast is good for tomorrow so we are planning to meet up as planned at 9.30am in Knighton. The usual ‘Autumn Epic’ car park is huge so no issues with space but the station car park is free and just around the corner.
As the loop around the Elan dams was checked at the Trans Cambrian last week (even though it was at high speed!) we plan to miss this bit out and have some grub instead. Good plan!!!
See you all tomorrow for a steady ride.
Yes hope to make it; will ride over to start; btw the `road closed` at Whitton (Walton > Knighton road), on the route is CLOSED to traffic as they have dug up the bridge, but has a footbridge OPEN

Hi guys
It was a good day out yesterday. Hope Christian got back OK – not the place to get the bonk!
