LVRC Broadheath RR

Take a bow Mr Nick Yarworth. Another fine win for the Epic (just for fun) Team ;-) The LVRC, Wyre Forest club organised RR’s at Broadheath was the scene of the latest victory. Nick was riding in the C&D class, disappointed by the slow start of the race, after half a lap he attacked and the race winning break was formed as 4 riders pulled away and were not seen again by the bunch until everyone returned to the race HQ for a post race cuppa.

Starting just before Nick in the A&B race I stayed near the front and a half lap in, I saw Conor O’Brien, Solihull CC attack. He was the rider that broke away with Peter Georgi at the Tour of the Abbs last week :-) Trapped on the inside I then see ex Pro Ian Fagan move up and go. I too attacked as Fagan rides straight past Conor, I reach Conor and thought, in for a penny in for a £1, past I go and have only 2 bike lengths to close, I call Conor through but the bunch had been shocked into life and Mr Fagan just kept on going faster and away :-( Like a bully taking candy from the younger kids he was gone with such ease !! He solo’ed to a 2.5 min win :-) A bunch sprint arrived and I managed 6th or 7th overall, pleased but I know it could of been a little better ;-)

No time to dwell as Nick comes to the finish in a now 3 up break and his commanding figure powers away, not knowing the impressive gap he had opened up, he manages a one handed victory salute :-) :-) Over heard comments from the 4th member of that break that got shelled, everyone was left with the impression that the pace had been hard and fast,  CHAPEAU Nick :-)

Again some nice comments about our club which was nice to hear ;-)

Dave, sorry for confusing Tango with Fondo – am I just a bit dim or this really just very complicated?

Anyway, the Percy Stallard went well. I won the AB race and Matt was 5th A. I’ve now extended my lead and Matt’s got another 2 points to consolidate his position in 2nd.

How did it go? I attacked after 1/2 a mile and one other guy (Martin Harney) came up to me quite quickly. Martin had won a race on his own the week before so I figured the move might come to something. having the whole race ahead of us we only rode at around 90% but built a lead of maybe 30secs before the bunch organised themselves and by the end of the first lap (10m) they’d reeled us in. There was a bit of jumping around and as the bunch kind of half caught us. After only a mile or so of this Darren Otter jumped away and I popped over to him followed by Dave Compston. A few seconds later we were riding flat out to try and make some space between us and the bunch. This we managed to do and soon built a slim lead that never really got to more than 40 seconds. We stuck at it and shared the work but for the first couple of laps I was having a really rough time. My legs felt like sticks of S**t and then I began to get back ache – at least this took my mind of how rubbish my legs were feeling. Happily I seemed to ride through this bad patch and started to feel ok as the race wore on. Towards the end were all a bit weary but had to continue to ride flat out because by now a hard working group of three had managed to escape the bunch and were making reasonable progress up to us. coming into the finish my fellow escapees left it to me to lead out for the last kilometre or so. Obviously it’s best not to lead these things out but yesterday I wasn’t bothered since this time I was feeling quite good. 250m to go and Darren jumped me in a bid for victory. I easily got his wheel and just waited there while a few more yards of the road were covered. At this point the three chasers caught us and it was time to head for the line, which I reached ahead of the other guys to take the win. Less than a minute later the bunch arrived with Matt finishing near the front for his 5th A position. This was a solid performance for him especially since he’s been sidelined with swine fever for the past couple of weeks. This all bodes well for this coming weekend’s stage race. After pete’s storming ride at the Abberleys and Simon’s generally fantastic start to the season we should turn up feeling positive. Let’s see if we can turn this into some more results.

Congratulations Giles and Matt (good to see you getting back to full strength). The Defonse podium is worried ;o)

Another weekend of top results for the team – well done to all. Top text message going to Simon after realising he was racing against Roger Hammond ;) Fantastic result for Ewen as well although it has been coming over the last month.

Hi guys, just a brief report on yesterday`s Birmingham City Crits which both Simon and Ewen participated in, thirty five full on laps of a superbe circuit at Birmingham Buisnaee Park, added spice to the event was the presence of Cervelo Test team rider Roger Hammond who fancied a little leg stretch and provided one for his fellow competitors.
Small groups attacked from the gun only to be repeatidly reeled in, however with about twelve lapps to go Hammond made his move along with Ben Luckwell ( remember him ) Rhys Lloyd ( Rapha ) and about six other riders, the best part of Ewens race was himself together with fellow jounior John Cooper bridging the ever increasing gap to the Hammond group, immediately on Ewen`s ond Johns arrival Hammond and Luckwell attacked, the initial gap was about fifteen seconds this remained constant untill about four laps to go when Ewen`s group realised the race for them was about third place. So Hammond won the sprint ( luckwell was just a passenger and did`nt contest ) they came in just thirty metres behind the main group, Ewen`s group were about thirty five sec`s behind the winners, he was third in the sprint ( good effort considering he was last wheel exiting the final roundabout, overhauling Rhys Lloyd to take fifth place, about a min behind was the main group with Simom popping out at the front in the last hundred metres to secure the bunch gallop and claim, I guess, aroun twelveth / thirteenth spot.
    Great race by these two.

excellent, well done Simon and Ewen. That sounded like a fast race. If this carries Viner will be wanting to bin off Magnus’s pro team and devote all their resources to us. The Epic-Viner Test Team sounds quite good.

Ewen fantastic ride, that result has been coming and what an excellent time to produce a ride :-) Well done also to Simon, great habit winning bunch sprints ;-)

Giles another fantastic win and better still, Matt and yourself extending / consolidating your overall postions :-) “Legs felt like sticks of S**t” Welcome to our world ha ha :-)

Good Luck to all at the weekend, big Epic teams at Tour De Fonce and Climb On RR

Hey Up, as you may or may not know I am organising a LVRC road race on the Severn Stoke course 14th June 09 @ 10:00. The race is in memory of Ramin Minovi who was a life member of the WSJCC and a stalwart of the LVRC & Warks RC who has organised countless cycling events over the years. I am in desparate need of volunteers to marshal or drive lead cars. If you can help out please contact me on cally@jojhncallaghan.wanadoo.co.uk or 01905 353337. The race will be over 50 miles and should not last more than 2.5 hours. I know it is a big ask as the same people come forward time after time. We as cyclists are in danger of losing our sport on open roads if we do not comply to police requests to have events properly marshaled. So please please help out if you can. There are many Epic RT riders entered for this event so come on and support them on the day. How better than stood on a corner waving a flag?????

    Regards John C

Hi Jon – I am riding the event but will have 3 spaces in my car to bring folks over if they would like to help out. I think Sam (my son – far too young for LVRC!) will probably be OK to help out if there are no exams the following day.

Thanks Phil, I am short of a lead car if the Epicmobile is free??? Will be in touch before then anyway. Entry`s are coming thick & fast so if any club members/team riders want to race dont delay do it today
