More sportives anyone?

So, after the runaway success of the Forest of Dean outing - where next? Chris and I fancy the Gran Fondo Cymru on 25th May, if we can fit it in our family diaries, but you need to be quick to enter as it closes on 16th May. Other local-ish events in the next couple of months include the Iron Mountain on 21st June and Wyre Forest Stinger on 6th July. Anyone doing any of these or planning to do any others in the next few weeks?

Update: As sportives are proving such a hit with club folks I have added a permanent page listing events people are attending or thinking about - see “sportive outings” on the menu bar under the banner at the top of the site…

I’m up for the Iron Mountain and the Stinger! Bring ‘em on! :) Simon mentioned the Dragon as well, but unfortunately that’s the same day as the Highland Challenge which I have already entered and ride with my dad so it would be a bit tight to pull out of it as it is the highlight of his year! It’s usually a good ride though for those of you wanting something near to home. http://www.shropshirehighlandschallenge.co.uk/

Still itching to see the final times for the weekend to see how we faired overall! :) I know it’s not supposed to be a race, but if we weren’t racing, what the hell were we doing!

Sorry! Didn’t mean to post that twice, just to excited! :)

    Hi Guy’s,

Yes I’ve already entered The Shropshire Highlands Challenge, The Mountain Mayhem Sportive, The Transcambrian, The Autum Epic (and trying to encourage as many people as possible to do these Events).

    Bye for now,

    Robin.

Sorry - forgot about the Highland Challenge…which is suprising, as I am entering it :-/ A good one for me as I can’t make the Iron Mountain (it being a Saturday and all that). I prefer events that are signposted and avoid potholes(!), but the friendly feel and super convenience make it a good day out…and we can always recce it in advance to make route finding easy on the day ;-)

Are we still doing the 4up TTT? If not then i might start getting some miles in and have a look at the GF Cymru.

    Hi All,
Great event on Sunday, so nice to see so many people there from the Epic social rides ! Phil/Chris you’ve hit the right note and I’m sure things will grow on the club side. You have a strong base anyway.
My brother and I are currently down for Gran Fondo Cymru, Dragon, Mayhem sportive at Ledbury, Stinger (now we’ve backed out of Marmotte),Devil,TransCambrian and Autumn Epic. It’s such a good atmosphere at these events, we’re hooked.
Some of you boys must have had wings on Sunday cos you were literally flying !!

See everyone on the ride from the shop on the 17th May
    Enjoy
    Dave

Morro - the 4-up TT is off, so GFC for you? Will be a good one…

On the Grand Fondo Cymru - are you guys doing the whopper or the Medio. With little miles, I am looking at the Medio as the better (less painful) option!

Just entered the GFC, sounds very challenging, going on holiday from now until then so the legs should be fresh!!

MachMan: I’ve entered the whopper but it states on the Cyclosport website ‘Whilst we appreciate an indication of which route you intend to ride for admin purposes, you can make your actual choice on the day and the timing system will record the route you ride’ so I can always bottle it on the day!

I am going short or Medio - depending on whether Sam comes with me or not. All routes share the same first section, so will be sociable whichever route we go for. The long route is not an option for me as I know the organiser well (customer of shop too!) and his advice is that you must have mega miles in your legs for that one…

Medio for me then! As you can alter the ride on the day, I am less worried about what the weather may do on the day.

Sam is up for it, so we have entered for the “Sporting” version - except we may add on some of the Vrynwy (sp?) loop in true DIY sportive fashion ;-) Will have to study route…

I have entered too now! Anyone else looking at doing it, the deadline is nigh so don’t hang about. It can’t be as lumpy as the FOD classic . . . . can it? :-/
